Transforming and Extending the Warehouse District in South Boston. Part two
This Masters thesis proposes the transformation and extension of the Warehouse District in South Boston as a live / work neighbourhood.
The design study explored the Fort Point Channel area in Boston in the late’80’s before major developments had taken place and the warehouse district was largely intact. The thesis anticipated the gradual conversion of this area into a residential neighborhood and sought to develop an approach to preserving but transforming the existing fabric. The thesis then explored ways of extending the neighborhood as a new urban fabric pushing out into the Fan Pier and neighboring waterfront properties, morphing in new ways to respond to different contextual opportunities. N. John Habraken was my thesis advisor and this was a great opportunity to test many of his theories on a fairly ambitious scale.
